# Adhesive Honeycomb Blind

Adhesive honeycomb blind installation — the cell rail bonds to the joinery with tape. Rail weight chooses the tape's carrying limit.

## How Much Can the Tape Carry?

The honeycomb fabric weighs heavier than the pleated because of its cell structure. For this reason the adhesive connection has a narrower working area here. Single-cell, narrow and mid-size blinds are carried safely with tape. The limit is chosen by the double cell and the wide rail.

The rail depth is also greater than the pleated one. If the tape's contact surface is sufficient there is no problem, but carrying a deep rail with a thin tape line is unreliable. The right examination is done together with the blind measurement.

## Surface Preparation Before Mounting

The tape's performance is not independent of the surface. If the preparation steps are skipped the hold is left to chance.

1. **The bead is wiped** — Dust and dirt are removed with a dry cloth. Around the cellular fabric's static pull the dust build-up can be heavier.
2. **It is made oil-free** — The surface is wiped with isopropyl alcohol. On kitchen glass the grease layer is the most frequent falling reason.
3. **It is left to dry** — The surface must be fully dry. Damp contact weakens the tape's chemical bond from the start.
4. **The rail seats in one pass** — After the position is marked the rail is pressed into place in a single movement. Removing and re-bonding lowers the holding power.

## The Adhesive Honeycomb's Limits

- **Risky on a double-cell wide rail** — The weight strains the tape capacity. In this combination a screwed connection is recommended.
- **It does not hold on textured joinery** — On grained PVC or a rough surface the contact area is insufficient. The tape holds only to the high points.
- **It weakens on a hot glass surface** — On a south façade the bead surface warming in summer shortens the tape life. The mounting direction matters.
- **Its life drops in damp environments** — On bathroom and heavily steamed kitchen glass the tape connection is not long-term.

## Does It Leave a Mark on Removal?

Tape removed by warming leaves no mark on the joinery. This is the adhesive connection's basic advantage for tenants. The tape residue is removed with a suitable cleaner.

On re-mounting the same tape is not used. The rail's bonding surface is fully cleaned and new tape is applied. New tape over old tape gives an unreliable connection.

## Continuous Load and Heat Effect

The cellular fabric's stack height is related to the adhesive surface. On a unit standing closed the fabric package hangs under the rail and gives the tape a continuous pulling load. On tall glass wanting a long drop this continuous load shortens the tape's life.

The heat condition is two-way on honeycomb. The tape softens under summer sun, hardens on the cold line at the glass edge in winter. A heat-resistant tape series preserves the hold between the two ends. On extreme façade conditions like a glass balcony and winter garden the hooked mounting is taken instead of the adhesive.

## The Adhesive Honeycomb's First-Day Rule

The rail weight makes the first-day rule a must on honeycomb. For the tape's full hold the unit must wait 24 hours without pulling load. In this period the fabric is kept gathered and the sash is not moved.

The cellular fabric's own weight gives the tape continuous pull. When the unit is left open the package weight loads the tape's edge line. The fabric's staying closed inside the rail on the first day zeroes the tape's edge load.

On a unit fitted in winter the tape hardens. On a cold bead the tape makes its first contact weakly. The bonding is done on a surface that has come to room temperature and the drying time is extended. The glass-edge coldness is part of this calculation.

## Questions About Adhesive Honeycomb Blind

Does an adhesive honeycomb fall?

At the right size, on a clean surface and on single-cell fabric it does not fall. Falling cases are generally mountings where the weight limit was exceeded or the preparation was missing.

Does the cellular fabric strain the tape?

On single-cell narrow blinds it does not strain. On a double-cell wide rail there is a weight limit. This limit is looked at together with the measurement.

Does the tape endure on sun-facing glass?

Partly. On a south façade in summer heat the bead surface warms and the tape softens. For long life a screw is safer on narrow beads taking direct sun.
