# Curtain Systems

Eight different arrangements of fabric, tube and mechanism — the technical roof of the interior mechanical blind family.

## System Types in Eight Products

Each product's system forms are described in its own section below — the card links to that section.

[Roller Blind Five bodies from open-bracket to dual system. Explore](#roller) [Zebra Blind Four bodies of the double layer. Explore](#zebra) [Screen Blind Two installations — inside and outside. Explore](#screen) [Vertical Blind The vane material sets the form. Explore](#vertical) [Blackout Blind Darkness is won by the channel, not the fabric alone. Explore](#blackout) [Motorised Blind Not a system but a control axis. Explore](#motorised) [Roman Blind Five sewing forms. Explore](#roman) [Ceiling Blind Three tensioned planes. Explore](#ceiling)

## Roller Blind Systems

The same winding logic is built in five separate bodies — the body choice sets dust, light and usage behaviour.

Roller Blind system types, working styles and notes
System — Operation — Note
Bracket-Mount (No Casing) — The mechanism is carried on an open bracket — Economical standard; wants no casing depth
Closed Casing — Tube and fabric gather inside a closed profile — From the 50 mm slim series to fully closed; protects from dust
Side-Guided — Fabric edges travel inside a rail — Does not swing on slopes; reduces edge light
Dual System — Sheer and blackout on two tubes in one casing — Sheer by day, cover by night — one bracket
Reinforced Winding — Reinforced casing on tall blinds — Runs motorised on long drops

## Zebra Blind Systems

The sliding of sheer and opaque stripes stays the same logic — what changes is the body carrying the pack.

Zebra Blind system types, working styles and notes
System — Operation — Note
Standard Double Layer — One fabric in two plies — stripes slide to adjust light — The classic and most widespread form
Cased Zebra — The double-layer pack works in a closed casing — Dust protection and a single-line look
Independent Dual Mechanism — The two layers move independently — Half-open position; a clearer outward view
Blackout-Banded — Opaque bands cut the light — Bedroom — thin leakage remains at stripe gaps

## Screen Blind Systems

It is not the body of the technical sun-filtering fabric that changes but its position — the same fabric does a different job inside and outside.

Screen Blind system types, working styles and notes
System — Operation — Note
Interior Screen — The fabric hangs on the inner face of the glass — Office and south façade; openness 1–10%
Exterior Façade Screen — The fabric works outside the glass — Cuts the heat before the glass; demands wind resistance
Side-Guided Screen — Edge-railed taut fabric — A fixed plane on the opening; does not swing

## Vertical Blind Systems

The rail and vanes work on the same mechanism — the vane material separates the usage area.

Vertical Blind system types, working styles and notes
System — Operation — Note
Fabric Vane — 89/127 mm fabric strips rotate and slide — The standard of offices and wide glazing
PVC Vane — Wipeable rigid vane — Clinics, kitchens and humid volumes
Wood / Aluminium Vane — Rigid material strips — A prestige look and darkening
Panel Glide — Wide panels slide sideways on the rail — Sliding doors and wide façades

## Blackout Blind Systems

The fabric alone cuts the light; total darkness is completed by closing the edge leakage.

Blackout Blind system types, working styles and notes
System — Operation — Note
Standard Blackout — Opaque fabric descends freely — Edge leakage remains
Cassette Blackout — Top casing and side covers trap the light — Presentation and bedroom
Side-Channelled — The fabric edge descends locked in a channel — The total-darkness goal; cinema room
Double Layer — Blackout and sheer work on two tubes — Filtering by day, darkening by night

## Motorised Blind Systems

The motor is not a separate product but a control class applied to the other seven systems — the supply type makes the choice.

Motorised Blind system types, working styles and notes
System — Operation — Note
Mains-Powered — 230 V-fed tube motor — Wants a permanent power line; planned in new builds
Battery / Rechargeable — Wants no supply line — The wireless solution in existing buildings
Solar — A panelled battery generates its own — Hard-to-reach and powerless façades
Tilt + Lift — Both angle and raise motorised — Dual-motion systems such as venetian and zebra

## Roman Blind Systems

The gathering style is born of how the fabric is sewn — five forms work on the same mechanism.

Roman Blind system types, working styles and notes
System — Operation — Note
Flat — The fabric descends flat, pleats when gathered — The cleanest display of patterned fabric
Hobbled (Broken Wave) — The fabric keeps folds even when down — A soft, layered look
Cascade (Sharp Pleat) — Sewn pleats produce crisp folds — The hotel line that keeps its shape
Relaxed — The bottom edge gathers in a curve — Only on light and soft fabrics
Balloon — Puffy gathering at the bottom ends — Areas where a decorative accent is wanted

## Ceiling Blind Systems

On horizontal and sloped planes the fabric is carried under tension — free-hanging systems do not pass here.

Ceiling Blind system types, working styles and notes
System — Operation — Note
Tensioned Skylight — The fabric works taut on a wire or rail — Roof windows and small glass ceilings
Side-Railed Ceiling — Guided-rail sloped plane — Wide winter-garden sections
Pergola-Top Tension — Horizontal fabric covering the opening — Outdoor shading; gathered in rain

## Mechanism Families

Eight models rest on four mechanisms — the right path is choosing the mechanism before the model.

### Chained

The classic mechanism — winds the fabric with an endless chain. Chain length is set to the mounting height.

### Spring/Chain-Free

A hand-positioned mechanism — the chain-free choice for child safety, on small-to-medium sizes.

### Motorised

In-tube motor — remote, wall button and smart-home integration. The recommended path on large sizes.

### Dual System

Roller + sheer or blackout + screen on the same cornice — two blinds in one mounting.

## Blind Models in the System

Eight products working on the same mechanism architecture — the difference in working style sets the model.

Working style and space matching of mechanical blind models
Model — Working Style — Space Match
Roller — Fabric winds onto a tube — Single layer, general use
Zebra — Transparent + opaque stripes slide — Fine light adjustment
Screen — Perforated technical fabric — Sun breaking + the view
Vertical — Vertical slats slide — Wide façades, offices
Blackout — Total-darkening fabric — Bedroom, meeting hall
Roman — Gathers in folds — Decorative, soft
Ceiling — On a horizontal/parallel rail — Roof covers and greenhouse glazing
Motorised — Added to every type above — Motor

## Roller ↔ Zebra

- Roller — single layer, either open or closed; the most economical path to darkening
- Zebra — stripes slide against each other; light adjustment without opening
- Because a zebra is double-layered, it gathers thicker at the same height

## Measurement and Mounting

- Recess mounting — depth equal to the casing diameter is needed; net measurement by survey
- Wall face — the fabric covers the wall with a 5–10 cm overlap; light leakage drops
- On chained systems the chain tensioner is fixed to the wall — child safety
- A motorised mechanism is recommended on widths above ~2 m

## Questions About the Curtain System

What is the distinction between roller and zebra?

A roller winds a single-layer fabric onto a tube — either open or closed. A zebra slides the plies of a double-layered striped fabric against each other to adjust light by degrees — light control without ever opening the blind.

Which mechanism is recommended on large sizes?

On widths above ~2 m a motorised system works more healthily than a spring one — the spring mechanism tires early under heavy fabric weight.

What should be done for child safety?

On chained systems the chain tensioner must be fixed to the wall. In homes with children, a spring/chain-free or motorised mechanism is recommended.

Recess-mount or wall-face mounting?

Recess mounting gathers the blind inside the frame and looks clean — the recess depth must suffice for the casing diameter. Without depth, the fabric covers the wall on wall-face mounting.

The application conditions of mechanism and carrier connections are listed on the [Curtain Installation Types](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/curtain-installation-types/) page.
