# Hook-Mounted Honeycomb Blind

Hook-mounted honeycomb blind installation — the rail hangs on the glazing bead with hooks. Cell thickness chooses the sash clearance.

## How Is a Cellular System Hung?

On a hooked honeycomb the hooks on the top rail's back face grip the glazing bead's top edge. No drilling, bonding or tool. The rail locks the hook to the bead with its own weight.

The cellular fabric's structural advantage works here too. The cellular fabric is light but rigid, it stands straight without sagging while hung. When the hook connection is unfastened the blind comes down as one piece. Cleaning and carrying is easy.

## The Hooked Honeycomb's Three Natural Scenarios

- **Seasonal Fit-and-Remove** — For those fitting for winter insulation and removing in summer — a seconds-long removal. No tool wanted.
- **Glass Moving with the Sash** — The blind hung on the window or balcony sash opens and closes together with the sash.
- **Places Where Joinery Is Not Touched** — On a tenancy, a historic joinery or a newly warranted wide joinery the surface stays untouched.

## What Is Checked for Hook Suitability?

- **Bead top-edge form** — The bead profile the hook will sit on is measured. Standard beads are suitable, special thin forms ask for a check.
- **Rail depth** — The honeycomb rail is deeper than the pleated one. At the hook seating a clash with the sash opening is checked.
- **Weight balance** — On a wide rail the hook count is raised. The load distributes evenly along the bead.

## In Which Case Is It Not Suitable?

On a beadless glass surface — a fixed glass partition, directly bonded glass — the hooked connection is not applied. Also on very wide and double-cell heavy rails the hook's carrying limit is exceeded. In these scenarios the screwed or bracketed form is right.

The hook seating also depends on the gasket stiffness. On a very tight gasket the hook may not enter. On a very loose gasket the seating may be weak. A photo of the joinery bead clarifies the suitability.

## The Hooked Honeycomb's Sash Behaviour

The hooked honeycomb's typical use is moving sashes. The hooks seating on the opening sash's top profile carry the unit together with the sash. In a tilt opening the rail tilts with the sash. The cellular fabric's flexible structure is compatible with this movement.

The hook-profile fit is more critical on honeycomb. A heavy rail sways on a wrong-size hook and produces sound at sash movement. Correctly measuring the profile top-edge thickness chooses both silent working and grip safety.

The heat-insulation expectation is the hooked honeycomb's preference reason. The cell structure sets up an air trap between glass and rail. Since the unit stays on the sash plane this insulation continues even while the sash is open. The hooked mounting does not lower the insulation performance.

The removal ease is valid on honeycomb too but the rail volume is taken into account. The unit is carried with two hands while lifted off the hooks. A rail removed for cleaning is laid on a flat ground and the cellular fabric is kept uncrushed.

## Post-Mounting Check on a Hooked Honeycomb

The rail's seating equally on both hooks is checked by hand. One side rising shows the hook did not fully grip the profile edge. The hook is taken out and seats again at a right angle.

The sash-opening test is the hooked honeycomb's handover step. The sash is fully opened and it is verified that the rail does not rub the side profile or the window handles. If there is rubbing the hook position is slid on the rail.

The cellular fabric's first operation is done slowly. The fabric arriving as a package seats into its own folds at the first opening. After a few full open-close cycles the cell form settles and the unit descends to its full size.

A sound check is also done. The hook's playing on the profile produces a click sound at sash movement. On the right-size hook the unit turns silently. If a sound is heard the hook size is changed. This change is free.

A seasonal check is done once a year. The hooks' seating position, the rail's alignment and the cellular fabric's fold order are reviewed. On joinery where the sash is used intensively this check is short but extends the unit's silent life.

## Questions About Hook-Mounted Honeycomb Blind

Does a hooked honeycomb blind fall?

On a correctly seated hook it does not fall. The blind weight locks the hook to the bead edge. On windy balconies the hook seating is checked at mounting.

Is removal really easy?

Yes. The blind is lifted up and separated from the hook. No tool is needed. Cleaning or seasonal removal takes seconds.

Does the hook leave a mark on the bead?

The contact is only on the bead's top edge. The cell rail's weight locks the hook there, no mark remains on the visible surface.
