# Horizontal Pleated Blind

The classic form with horizontally running pleats, opening up and down. The most common and most familiar shape of the pleated blind.

## What Is the Horizontal Form?

The horizontal pleated blind is the classic form whose pleats run on the horizontal axis and which opens and closes in the vertical direction. The fabric works on a tensioning system between two aluminium bars. When the bottom bar is drawn up the fabric folds like an accordion and gathers at the top.

Requiring no chain or cord, the blind is positioned by hand alone. And it stays exactly where it is released. This simplicity explains both its durability and its everyday ease of use.

## Why the Most Common Form?

It matches the geometry of the standard vertical window one-to-one. It works parallel to the glass surface, does not interfere with the sash opening, covers the whole glass when closed and becomes almost invisible when open.

Its use everywhere from children’s rooms to offices is no accident. The cordless build solves safety, the slim headrail solves aesthetics and the free stance solves light management.

## Operating Modes

Three opening styles in the same headrail. The privacy need decides the mode.

Operating modes of the horizontal pleated blind and their use
Mode — Operation — Advantage
Bottom-Up — The bottom bar is drawn upward. The fabric gathers at the top — Classic use. Light enters from above
Top-Down — The top bar is lowered. The fabric gathers at the bottom — Privacy at street level + a view of the sky
Top-Down/Bottom-Up — Both bars move independently — Leaves the opening in the middle. The most flexible mode

## Standout Features

Where the horizontal form makes a difference in daily use.

- Cordless Stance No cords or chains. The fabric is positioned by hand and stays where released.
- Child Safety With no dangling chain it works safely in children’s rooms.
- Slim Gather When open the fabric leaves a band of only a few centimetres at the top. The view is not cut.
- Millimetric Production Produced one-to-one to the net measurement inside the glazing bead.
- Permanent Pleat The pleats are heat-set. The same folding order is kept for years.
- Easy Cleaning Antistatic fabric does not hold dust. A soft-brush wipe is enough.

## Questions About the Horizontal Pleated Blind

Which windows suit the horizontal pleated blind?

All standard vertical frames — it works close to the glass surface on PVC, aluminium and timber windows. It does not interfere with the sash opening.

Does the blind hold at the height I want?

Yes. The internal tensioning system keeps the fabric in position. It can be left halfway, a quarter down or at any point wanted.

Does it cut the light completely?

The blackout fabric option gives near-100% darkening. A portray fitting is recommended to reduce leakage through the edge gaps.

How much stacking allowance is there?

Fully open, the fabric leaves only a few centimetres of folded band at the top. Almost the entire glass stays clear.

The window and door types where horizontal gathering is used are shown on the [application pages](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/pleated-blind-application-areas/); its vertically opening sibling form on wide façades is described on the [vertical system](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/vertical-pleated-blind/).
