# Horizontal Venetian Blind

The standard and most widespread form of the Venetian blind. The free-hanging slat stack tilts and gathers on the mechanism in the top rail.

## The System’s Four Parts

In the free-hanging form every element works on the vertical line.

- Top Rail The mechanism line carrying the lift and tilt drive. All movement of the blind is produced here.
- Ladder Tape The vertical link carrying the slats at intervals. Cord-plain or fabric-tape looks are chosen.
- Horizontal Slats Strips tilting on their own axis. As the angle changes, light and view are adjusted instantly.
- Bottom Bar The lower profile keeping the stack taut. Lining the slats up as the blind descends is its job.

## Control Types

The same slat stack runs on four different mechanisms. The choice follows use and safety needs.

Horizontal Venetian blind control types, operating styles and suited uses
Control — Operation — Suited Use
Cord + Wand — Lift by cord, tilt by wand — Classic arrangement. Economical on small and medium blinds
Single Chain (Mono) — Lift + tilt from one loop — No dangling cord; safe in spaces with children
Geared — Soft travel through the gear ratio — Easy pull on wide and heavy slats
Motorised — Tilt and lift by remote — High and hard-to-reach windows

## Standout Features

What the classic form means on today’s window.

- Step-Free Light Slat angle is free between 0–180°. There is no blackout — there is redirection.
- Slim Stack Gathered slat height is low; it barely covers the view above the window.
- Humidity Friendly Aluminium slat is washable in kitchen and bath, does not deform.
- Made to Measure Width and height are produced to the joinery; edge allowance is set at survey.

## Questions About the Horizontal Venetian Blind

Does a horizontal Venetian blind fully darken?

No. Even with slats closed, fine light leaks through the cord holes and edges. If darkening is the goal, a blackout roller or a side-guided system is recommended.

Which mechanism should be chosen?

Cord-and-wand suffices on a standard window. In a home with children the single chain, on wide and heavy blinds the geared, on hard-to-reach glass the motorised mechanism is the right choice.

How is slat width chosen?

Slim slat on narrow wings and tight bead gaps, medium on standard windows, wide slat on wide façades looks clean. Sizes are listed in the product family.

The spaces where the horizontal slat arrangement works are listed in the [application areas](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/venetian-blind-application-areas/); connection styles are described on the [installation types](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/venetian-blind-installation-types/).

## Let Us Choose Slat and Mechanism

Once window measurements and the use scenario are relayed, a slat size and control type are recommended.
