# Pleated Insect Screen Systems

Bellows-folded mesh, a mechanism-free rail — the technical answer to wide openings and heavy passage.

## Pleated Insect Screen Components

Casing, mesh, tension and rail — four components, eight models.

### Aluminium Casing

15/18 mm slim and 25–27 mm standard series — selected by mounting depth and opening width.

### Pleated Mesh

Polyester or fiberglass, typically 85 g/m² with an 18×16 weave. Gathers by folding in accordion form.

### Tension Cords

Vectran or polyester cords keep the mesh taut — prevent sagging and keep the fold uniform.

### Bottom Rail and Handle

14–18 mm sliding handle, threshold profile and magnetic or mechanical lock — passage comfort is chosen in this component.

## Pleated Models in the System

The same casing and mesh architecture — mounting direction and rail type determine the model.

Usage style and suitable space matching of pleated insect screen models
Model — Usage Style — Suitable Space
Horizontal — Standard horizontal — Doors and windows
Recess-Mounted — Mounted inside the joinery — Minimal look, joinery with shutters
Surface-Mounted — Onto the outer face — Depthless joinery, façade cheeks
Sliding — Panel travelling on the bottom rail — Balcony doors — the most preferred
Threshold-Free — 7 mm ultra-low rail — Wheelchair and pram passage
Double — Two sashes meeting in the middle — Wide openings
Vertical — Folds bottom-up — Windows that need no rail
With Pleated Blind — Two functions in one casing — Insect screen + blind combination

## Threshold Profile Types

Passage comfort is chosen by the rail’s height on the floor — three threshold types, three scenarios.

### Low Ramp (~20 mm)

For passages with a door sill or marble on the floor.

### Double Ramp (~10 mm)

The middle solution preventing trips on flat floors.

### Threshold-Free (≤7 mm)

Barrier-free passage — the claim of the premium segment.

## Questions About the Pleated Insect Screen System

Does the pleated insect screen have a mechanism?

It needs no spring or reel mechanism — the mesh stays wherever it is left. This is the least-wearing, longest-lasting working style of the system.

What is the widest opening limit?

The pleated mesh production limit is ~300 cm height. Wide openings are covered with the double (two-sash) model.

How is the corner joint made?

90° joining or 45° mitre cut. The mitre cut gives a single-piece look and is preferred in the upper segment.

How is the knock-down kit installed?

Profiles are framed, corner keys and tension cords fitted. Tension is adjusted with an Allen key and the frame is fixed to the joinery or wall.

The application conditions of threshold types and casing-depth selection are described on the [Pleated Insect Screen Installation Types](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/pleated-insect-screen-installation-types/) page; the spaces where the models work are shown in the [application areas](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/pleated-insect-screen-application-areas/) and the measurement-based range is given in the [price calculator](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/pleated-insect-screen-price-calculator/).
