# Screw-Mounted Duette Blind

Screw-mounted duette blind installation — the double-layer duette rail is screwed to the joinery. The layer load chooses the screw position and plug kind.

## Double Layer Means Weight

A duette blind is two independent fabric layers working in one rail. This means roughly twice the weight of a single-layer blind at the same width. This fact is decisive in the connection choice. While tape and hook stay at their limit the screw transfers the load straight to the joinery.

At every open-close the two layers' tension system loads the rail cyclically. On a loosening connection the rail bends. The layers work unbalanced. The screw prevents this scenario from the start.

## Screw-Mounted Duette Mounting Step by Step

1. **The rail position is taken** — The double-layer rail is deeper than the pleated one. The sash opening and the jamb distance are checked first.
2. **The screw points are marked** — On a wide rail the point count rises. Evenly spaced marking seats the rail balanced.
3. **Pilot holes are opened** — The preparation is done on PVC toward the steel reinforcement channel, on aluminium with a drill-pointed screw, on timber with a standard screw.
4. **The rail is tightened balanced** — The screws are tightened in alternating order. One-sided tightening bends the rail and spoils the double-layer fabric's parallel working.
5. **The double-layer test is done** — The two layers are moved separately and together. If the rail is bent it shows at this stage.

## When Is the Screw the Only Option on a Duette?

- **On wide and tall glass** — A double-layer rail plus the opening width together bring the screw condition. Tape is unreliable at this weight.
- **Intensive daily use** — Every cycle of the two layers loads the connection. The screw does not loosen.
- **Permanent insulation and blackout aim** — A duette is generally bought for a permanent purpose. The screw is the name of the permanent connection.
- **Motorised duette scenario** — The motor torque is carried safely only on a screwed base.

## Removal and the Joinery Mark

When a screwed duette is removed the screw holes remain. Since the heavy double-layer rail generally uses more screw points the mark is slightly more than on a pleated. The holes are closed with a suitable filler but it is not fully mark-free.

For this reason a screwed duette makes sense in one's own home and permanent projects. For a tenant or temporary use the hooked or bracketed type is looked at.

## Screw Distribution and Wall Application

The double-layer duette fabric is heavier than a single layer. The total load of the two fabric layers and the middle rail becomes distinct on wide units. The screw points are raised to three or four by the unit width and the rail's bending at the middle line is prevented.

In an off-joinery application the screwed duette is carried to the wall or ceiling. The double-layer fabric's weight affects the plug selection. On aerated-concrete wall an expanding plug, on drywall a cavity plug is used.

## Alignment Discipline on a Screwed Duette

The two-way tension mechanism makes the rail alignment twice as sensitive. When the top and bottom bands work together a tilted rail strains the two layers in opposite directions and the fabric edges open up. The spirit-level check is non-negotiable on a duette.

The screw holes' position on the rail must not clash with the tension cords. A screw landing on the cord line rubs the cord and wears the thread over years. The screw line is marked away from the rail profile's cord channels.

The double-layer fabric's first opening asks for a tension adjustment. The cord tightness set in production settles with a few full open-close cycles after mounting. The fabric's gathering equally in both directions is this adjustment's sign.

If removal is needed the screw count's surplus is felt. Three-four screws are loosened one by one and the rail is lowered held in hand. A double-layer unit is not carried single-handed. The removal is done by two people.

## Questions About Screw-Mounted Duette Blind

Can a duette blind be fitted without screws?

At narrow and small sizes hooked or adhesive is possible. But the double-layer weight asks for the screw choice early. On wide glass the screw is the only safe option.

Do the two layers strain the screw?

They do not. The screw is taken exactly for this weight. The weight problem starts on tape and hook. The screwed connection transfers the load straight to the joinery.

Does PVC joinery carry the double layer?

It does. The screw must land on the steel reinforcement line inside. A screw driven only into the profile wall loosens over time. The right point choice is the technical part of the job.

At the double layer's weight the screw point is critical. The decision is given with the joinery photo.
