# Screw-Mounted Insect Screen

Screw-mounted insect screen — the fixed frame locks to the joinery with screws. Screw interval, hole mark and the firmest connection.

## The Stages of a Screwed Set-Up

The panel is positioned on the joinery; the screw order decides the seating's life.

1. **The frame is positioned** — The panel is held to the opening and centred to leave an equal share at its four corners. The after-correction share runs out at this step.
2. **The hole marks are transferred** — The screw points on the profile edge are passed to the joinery surface with a pencil. The marking starts from the corner zones and descends to the edge middles.
3. **The holes descend** — The thin bit advances from the frame top to the joinery wall. The hole is opened at a depth gripping the screw's body.
4. **The diagonal order is tightened** — First the top corners, then the bottom corners are taken; the edge middles stay last. A panel tightened one-way slides off its alignment.
5. **The seating is probed** — The four edges are pressed by hand. When no playing point remains the panel's set-up counts as complete.

## Whose Question Does the Screw Answer?

- **A window staying in place** — On an opening with no removal intent the screw is the simplest connection. The panel stands at the same place in summer and winter.
- **A high façade taking wind** — On upper floors the panel sees a continuous push-pull load. The mechanical lock produces no loosening under this load.
- **Wide and heavy frame** — As the size grows the panel weight rises; at the point reaching the spring pressure's limit the screw divides the load across points.
- **A panel fitted outside** — A frame sitting on the outer surface works directly with the weather. It is the first candidate at every outer fitting wanting permanence.

## Screw Point and Material

The hold's life is given by the screw length, the point distribution and the hole diameter.

Screw length, point distribution and hole-diameter equivalents on a screwed insect screen
Decision — Right Choice — The Case Entering Risk
Screw length — A length gripping the joinery wall — A short screw escapes under pulling load
Point distribution — Near the corners + edge middle — A sparse point produces a gap at the edge
Hole diameter — A diameter equal to the screw body — A wide hole holds the screw loose
Panel size — A rising point per edge — A wide panel sways with few points

## The Mark the Hole Leaves

When the screw comes out thin holes remain on the joinery surface. On PVC and timber this mark can be closed with a suitable filler; on an aluminium surface the hole is permanent. This fact is discussed at the decision stage.

The mark's price is only the problem of the one who will remove it. For a user not thinking of taking the panel down once a year the price is practically invisible; the one who will remove heads to the clipped or adhesive arrangement from the start.

## Questions About Screw-Mounted Insect Screen

Can a screwed insect screen be removed?

It can; once the screws are taken the panel comes down. But the screw marks remain on the joinery. A user planning seasonal removal chooses the clipped arrangement.

Does drilling the joinery harm it?

Thin holes do not spoil the profile integrity and stay outside the rebate line. Against the cracking possibility on timber joinery it is advanced with a pilot hole.

Does the mesh change while the panel is screwed?

While the frame stays in place the mesh gasket can be removed and a new one fitted. Mesh replacement does not ask for the panel's taking down.
