# Sloped Window Pleated Blind

Pleated blind on the sloped window. Railed tensioning on roof and mansard slopes, the only solution keeping the fabric on the plane.

## Sloped Window Analysis

The sloped window breaks the assumption of a vertically working blind. The fabric sags down on the slope and moves away from the window. The railed tensioning system keeps the fabric taut between two rails. However steep the slope, the blind stays on the plane. This is the standard solution for mansard and roof windows.

### Railed Tensioning

The fabric works tensioned between two rails. On the sloped plane it stays attached to the window without sagging.

### Opening at Every Angle

The blind moves up and down along the slope. Partial opening makes light control possible on the slope too.

### Roof-Window Fit

On the roof window the case measurement is taken as basis. A profile suiting the joinery brand is fitted.

### Light and Heat Control

The steep sun entering from the slope is cut at the glass plane with the closing blind. Heat and light are provided in the attic.

## The Tensioning-System Necessity on the Sloped Window

This page is for the space decision: is pleated the right choice on the sloped window, and under which condition is it a must? The system’s guide-cord mechanism, tension adjustment, fabric and configuration options are detailed on the [sloped pleated system page](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/sloped-pleated-blind/).

On the sloped glass the blind physics changes. Gravity pulls the fabric in the slope direction. A rail-less system sags, the fold positions distort, the unit does not fold neatly. The [railed tensioning system](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/sloped-pleated-blind/) breaks this rule with two side rails. The fabric stays tensioned in every position. Whether the slope is 15 or 60 degrees, the order is the same.

The roof-window manufacturer’s ready blind part is for its own case. On a different brand or a custom joinery a universal rail mechanism is built. Once the slope degree and the window brand are known the rail type is taken. At a special angle the rail profile is cut to the slope.

Access is the sloped window’s second issue. Reaching a high roof glass is not a daily practicality. An opening rod or a [motorised mechanism](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/motorised-blind/) solves it. The motorised unit is positioned from the remote; no ladder or stool is needed.

The sloped glass takes much more sun angle than a vertical window. In summer the noon-hour steep ray heats the room. The [sunscreen series](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/sunscreen-duette-blinds/) cuts this load on the slope plane. In winter the open system takes the solar gain inside. The attic’s heat balance is set by the season.

Condensation behaves differently on the sloped glass. Drops run down along the glass and can accumulate in the rail channel. Moisture-series fabric and regular rail wiping control the build-up. The rail end is placed to face the joinery’s drainage.

The sloped window’s opening chooses the blind position. On the outward-opening roof glass the unit stays on the interior plane, it does not block the opening. On an inward-turning fanlight opening the unit needs to move with the sash. On-joinery carrying is a must here.

The slope calculation is production data. The rail profile is cut to the slope, the tensioning spring is set per the load distribution. The system working between 15–90 degrees resembles a normal vertical unit as it approaches vertical.

The universal hardware steps in on custom joinery. On a case without a ready hook, adhesive or [screwed hardware](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/screw-mounted-pleated-blind/) is used. The profile photograph joins the measurement form, the hardware type is taken accordingly.

The accuracy of the slope measurement decides the production. A laser angle meter or a phone application is sufficient. If two measurements differ a third is taken. A wrong angle is an irreversible error in rail cutting. Angle confirmation is a must before production.

The decision boundary is the slope degree. On a light slope close to vertical (below 15 degrees) a standard vertical unit is mostly sufficient and more economical; the tensioned system turns into a necessity in the 15–90 degree range. In an attic where heat insulation is the priority, [honeycomb](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/sloped-window-honeycomb-blind/) or [duette](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/sloped-window-duette-blind/), and where a venetian look is wanted, [sloped venetian](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/sloped-window-venetian-blind/) are applicable alternatives on the same window.

Application Notes

## Mounting & Selection for Sloped Window

### Tensioned Model

In the sloped application the railed-tension model is taken, not a freely sagging one. The system is compatible with the slope.

### Joinery Brand

The roof-window brand’s case measurement is sent. A compatible profile and rail production is made.

### Blackout Option

In bedroom attics the blackout fabric holds the morning sun. The light entering from the roof window is provided.
