## Steel Insect Screen

- Stock Code: FS-SNK-04

- Availability: Produced to Order

- Brand: FENETRE

- Category: Insect Screens

The stainless steel mesh is set into the frame under special tension — the panel is cut to measure and arrives ready to install.

Steel wires cannot be cut with a utility knife and cannot be torn by a pet claw. On ground-floor, garden and exterior openings it acts not as a protective textile but as a protective net.

The view is slightly denser than fibreglass mesh but remains clear, and airflow is unobstructed. It is set into an aluminium [frame](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/insect-screens/) under special tension and produced to measure.

 Compatibility

- Compatibility Fixed, hinged and sliding frames: PVC · Alu · Timber

The steel mesh is set into the aluminium frame under high tension; the same mesh is used with fixed, hinged and sliding frame types.

Clip-on or [screwed](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/insect-screen-installation-types/) connections are applied — the heavier mesh sits more securely on a screwed connection.

- The frame opening is measured as clear width and height in cm.
- The frame type is noted: fixed, hinged or sliding.
- Ground-floor or security expectations are stated — the mesh gauge is chosen accordingly.

Steel mesh is heavy — the sash load increases on a hinged frame, and a reinforced profile is recommended as the sash grows.

## A net, not a textile

Standard insect mesh is a fibre weave; steel mesh is metal wire. The difference is not only the material but the role: fibreglass mesh stops insects, while steel mesh stops insects and resists a cutting tool and a paw strike.

On a ground-floor window this distinction carries security value — steel mesh on an open window provides basic protection; it cannot be slit and peeled off like fabric.

In coastal and humid climates stainless wire outlasts fibreglass — it does not rot in salt and moisture and keeps its shape for years.

## The strongest option for pets

Pet screen mesh withstands paw strikes but its weave is still synthetic fibre. Under the repeated load of cat claws or dog teeth, steel mesh is the toughest step available.

The weight of the mesh influences the panel choice: a large hinged sash requires a reinforced profile, while a fixed frame needs no extra reinforcement.

An animal pushing on a balcony door leans on the mesh — steel mesh does not tear under that load, but the frame’s connection to the joinery must carry it too; a screwed connection is recommended.

## Ordering and care

The view reads slightly denser because of the wire thickness; clarity changes with the weave gauge, which is selected from the range.

Maintenance is as simple as wiping with water — the metal surface does not hold dirt and resists UV and moisture.

Stepping up to steel where pet screen would suffice is unnecessary — if the purpose is pets, the [cat screen](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/cat-screen/) is enough; where durability and security are needed together, the model on this page is the right choice.

## Questions About Steel Insect Screen

Does steel mesh resist a knife?

The weave wires are stainless steel — cutting them with a hand tool is significantly harder than standard mesh. It is not a professional security system but a durable barrier.

How much is the view affected?

The metal wire is thicker than fibreglass, so the view gains a slight density — but the outside remains clearly visible. The weave gauge is selected from the range.

Does it rust by the sea?

The mesh is stainless steel and does not rust in salty humidity. The frame’s connecting parts are also chosen stainless or anodised.

How does it differ from a cat screen?

A cat screen carries synthetic pet screen mesh; a steel screen is a metal weave. It is the highest step against claw and tooth loads.

Can it go on sliding or hinged frames?

The same mesh fits every frame type — the heavy mesh requires a reinforced profile on large hinged sashes.
