# Venetian Blind Systems

Slats, mechanism and ladder tape — the oldest and still most practical blind to adjust light to the millimetre.

## Venetian Blind Variants

Three system forms — each described on its own page.

## Slat System Components

There is no fabric in a venetian blind — horizontal slats and the mechanism moving them build the system.

### Slats

Horizontal strips tilt between 0–180° — light and privacy are adjusted to the millimetre. The system speaks through them.

### Headrail/Mechanism

The headrail housing the raise (up/down) and tilt functions — the heart of the venetian blind.

### Ladder Cord/Tape

The vertical link that carries and aligns the slats — a decorative tape option exists on wooden venetians.

### Bottom Bar and Gathering

The bottom profile keeping the slats taut — height and tilt are controlled by cord or wand.

## Material Types

Three material families — slat width and usage profile make the choice.

Slat dimensions and features of venetian blind material types
Material — Slat — Use — Note
Aluminium — 16/25/50 mm — Modern, moisture-proof — kitchen and bathroom — 20–30 micron slat thickness
Wood — 25/50 mm — A warm, natural look — living room — Wood-look aluminium option
PVC — 25 mm — Budget-friendly — easy cleaning — A fabric vertical variant is also available

## Mechanism Options

How tilt and raise are controlled — four options.

Venetian blind mechanism types and features
Mechanism — Operation — Note
Wand + Cord — Tilt by wand, raise by cord — Standard and economical
Continuous Cord Loop — A continuous loop on one side — Large and heavy systems
Geared — Gear mechanism — A softer tilt feel
Motorised — Tilt and raise by remote — Hard-to-reach glazing

## Questions About the Venetian Blind System

Which slat width is used where?

16 mm gives a minimal look, 25 mm is the general standard; 50 mm delivers a cleaner look on wide openings.

What is a perforated (punched) slat?

25 mm punched aluminium slats pass part of the light through as filtered light — preferred in spaces wanting filtered light rather than darkness.

Real wood or wood-look?

In humid environments wood-look aluminium delivers durability instead of real wood; in dry interiors the texture of real wood is chosen.

How is a venetian blind cleaned?

The slats are brought to the closed position and the surface is wiped with a damp cloth. Aluminium and PVC are moisture-proof; wood is wiped with a dry cloth.

The compatibility table of slat types with installation surfaces is listed on the [Venetian Blind Installation Types](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/venetian-blind-installation-types/) page; the spaces the system works in are listed in the [application areas](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/venetian-blind-application-areas/).

## Let Us Pick the Material

Once the room's moisture state and look preference are relayed, material and slat recommendations are given.
