# Zip Screen Installation Types

Zip-screen mounting is an outer-façade job. The side guide channels and the housed top rolling are the two lines deciding the system's wind endurance.

## Three Mounting Types

Each type is explained on a separate page. Three details by the connected plane.

## The Mounting's Three Legs

Channel, tension and housing. The zip screen's endurance depends on these three being fitted right together.

### Zipper-Locked Side Channel

The zipper on the fabric's two sides stays locked inside the side guide profiles. In wind the fabric does not escape the channel. This is the zip screen's defining feature, and the mounting's soundness begins here.

### Spring Tension System

The plastic spring tension inside the side channels stretches the fabric from both top and bottom. If the channels are not fitted on the right level the tension balance spoils. For this reason the channel mounting is done with a laser level.

### Motor and Sensor Feed

Motorised working is standard. A sun and wind sensor can be added. The feed line is planned before the mounting. The cable channel and the socket position are chosen in the project.

## Fixing by Surface

From the plug to the sheet-metal screw. The connection element is chosen by the façade material.

Zip-screen mounting surfaces and fixing methods
Surface — Connection — Use
Concrete/Brick Façade — Side channel with steel plug + screw — The highest hold. Building façade
Aluminium Pergola — In-profile slot or sheet-metal screw — Under-pergola and veranda enclosure
Timber Frame — Wood screw + landing on the carrier — Timber pergola and gazebo structures
On the Housing (Head Box) — The watertight box carries from the top — The standard structure protecting the fabric while gathered

The fabric and channel architecture is examined on the [Zip Screen Systems](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/zip-screen-systems/) page; the planes the connection is applied to are gathered on the [application areas](https://www.fenetresystems.com/en/zip-screen-application-areas/) page.

## Questions About Zip-Screen Mounting

Does a zip screen come off its mounting in wind?

The zipper-locked side channel is designed exactly for this. As long as the fabric stays locked in the channel the wind cannot hurl the fabric out. The endurance depends on the system's wind class and the mounting surface.

Can it be fitted under a pergola?

Yes. On aluminium pergola profiles the side channels are fixed with sheet-metal screws. The headrail sits on the carrier beam. The pergola's load-carrying capacity is checked at survey.

Which measurements are needed for the mounting?

The opening's net width and height, the plane the side channels will sit on and the depth for the headrail are measured. The façade material (concrete, aluminium, timber) must be specified.

## Quote with Measurement and Surface

Once the terrace, pergola or façade measurement and the surface material are conveyed the mounting programme is chosen mutually.
