Bracket-Mounted Duette Blind

Bracket-mounted duette blind installation — the heaviest rail class is carried to the wall or ceiling with L brackets on wide surfaces.

The Heaviest Scenario — the Load Goes to the Building

A duette blind is already heavy with its double fabric layer. Add wide glass and the rail reaches a load that cannot be carried on the joinery. Bracket mounting is this scenario's solution. The rail is bound to the wall or ceiling. The joinery sees no load at all.

The result means independence. The building carries the blind weight, the joinery keeps opening and closing, the glass surface is not affected by the blind's working. On wide-fronted living rooms and offices this is the only right approach.

Where Is the Bracket Fitted?

Upper wall planeDepthless or shallow-niched windowThe double layer works in front of the window. The glass–fabric distance is adjusted with the bracket size.

Bracket Alignment on a Duette

  • The bracket count rises

A double-layer duette rail and the opening want more brackets. Rail bending spoils the layers' parallel working.

  • The plug is taken by the surface

Different plug types are used on reinforced concrete, brick and drywall. At the duette's load a wrong plug removes the bracket.

  • The glass distance is adjusted

The bracket size chooses the rail–glass distance. Too close it rubs, too far it leaks.

  • Spirit level is a must

On a tilted rail the two layers gather at different alignments. The level check is an inseparable part of the mounting.

The Bracketed Duette's Strong Scenarios

  • Wide Living-Room Front

On glass exceeding three metres the heavy rail is carried to the wall plane instead of the joinery. The width limit is removed.

  • Blackout + Insulation Together

Even the blackout duette's heaviest combination is carried safely on brackets.

  • Joinery Warranty Protection

On new or warranty-wide joinery the surface is not drilled. The load goes to the building.

Distance and Double Layer on a Bracketed Duette

The duette unit's double-layer fabric affects the bracket distance from two directions. The thick fabric package works close to the glass surface while descending and catches on a protruding window handle. The bracket leg carries the unit in front of the handle line and lets the fabric descend free.

On a bracketed duette the two-way opening remains. The top rail stands fixed on the bracket, the fabric works both from above and below. The bracket distance does not change the opening mechanics. It only shifts the unit's plane.

The jamb depth gives the bracket size. For the fabric to descend parallel to the ground passing the jamb line, the bracket leg stands a few centimetres in front of the jamb. This measurement is adjusted stepwise at mounting and calibrated in one pass.

The Duette Carried to Wall and Ceiling

When a bracketed duette is carried to the wall plane it covers the whole window opening. The double-layer fabric spills over the edges and covers the opening, the room front closes on a single plane. In the bedroom and meeting room this set-up is standard.

A bracket fitted to the ceiling lowers the unit from the highest. The blind's starting from the ceiling line shows the window bigger than it is and widens the blackout coverage area. The visual effect is this plane's extra gain.

Questions About Bracket-Mounted Duette Blind

Does it touch the glass in bracketed duette mounting?
It does not rub. The right bracket size leaves a clean gap between rail and glass. In the recess the rail descends to the glass line, on the wall it stands a click ahead.
Does a ceiling bracket carry the duette weight?
It does. On a reinforced-concrete ceiling even the heaviest duette combination is hung safely with the right plug. On a suspended ceiling it is aligned to the carrier line.
Is the bracket visible?
The double-layer rail seats on the bracket. The bracket hides on the rail's back and side planes. From the front it is not noticed. From the side a thin metal line is seen.
