Venetian Blind Installation Types
Venetian-blind mounting is done on one of three surfaces. Inside the frame, wall or ceiling. The recess depth and the slat weight decide the selection.
Six Mounting Types
Each type is explained on a separate page. Six details, from the connected plane to the carrier.
Ceiling-Mounted Venetian Blind
The connection is given to the ceiling; the rail descends from open volume.
ExploreWall-Mounted Venetian Blind
Screwed to the plane above the window; no recess depth is sought.
ExploreCurtain-Rail-Adapter Venetian Blind
Holds to the existing curtain track with an adapter; no hole opened in the wall.
ExploreBracket-Mounted Venetian Blind
Side carriers wrap the rail; installed to wall or ceiling.
ExploreRecess-Mounted Venetian Blind
Sinks into the window recess; the lowest edge leakage.
ExploreOn-Sash Venetian Blind
Screwed to the sash profile; the blind turns with the sash.
ExploreThree Mounting Surfaces
The headrail is the same. The direction the bracket turns defines the mounting form.
| Surface | Application | Ideal Case | Attention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inside the Frame (Recess) | Fixed to the window recess's inner wall with brackets | Clean look on a recessed window | Edge leakage depends on the recess tolerance |
| Wall | Brackets are screwed to the wall above the window | Depth-less joinery, above-door | The fabric overhangs the housing. A share is added to the size |
| Ceiling | The bracket faces the ceiling, the blind hangs down | Volumes solid below, open above | The beam and cornice level is checked |
Three Notes That Change the Mounting
On a Venetian, slat and mechanism weight is discussed before the connection.
Slat–Rail Compatibility
The headrail and the slats must be at the same width. On a Venetian fitted inside the recess a 1–2 cm tolerance share is left. If the rail does not fit the recess the blind stands tilted, the slats do not close.
Gearbox on a Heavy Slat
On timber slats and 50 mm aluminium the lifting force rises. The geared chain mechanism reduces the pulling load. A standard option on wide timber Venetians.
Continuous-Chain Safety
In a continuous-chain loop there is no hanging cord. A safety advantage in homes with children and in offices. The chain is kept taut by clipping to the wall.
Slat types and mechanism options are detailed on the Venetian Blind Systems page; the venues the connection is applied to are gathered on the application areas page.
Questions About Venetian-Blind Mounting
Should a Venetian be fitted inside the frame or on the wall?
Does the mounting change in a humid volume?
Can a Venetian be fitted to the ceiling?
Describe the Window
Once the recess depth and the window measurement are conveyed the suitable rail position is recommended.
