Pleated Insect Screen Installation Types
Pleated insect-screen mounting rests on two decisions. How much threshold will remain on the floor and at which depth the housing will be fitted.
Five Connection Forms
Each form is explained on a separate page. With the method, the conditions and on which joinery it is right.
Screw-Mounted Pleated Insect Screen
The housing is fixed to the joinery with a screw. The most permanent connection.
ExploreRecess-Mounted Pleated Insect Screen
Mounted into the frame or the reveal interior. No trace from outside.
ExploreSurface-Mounted Pleated Insect Screen
Sits on the joinery outer face. No depth condition.
ExploreAdhesive Pleated Insect Screen
Holds with industrial tape. No drilling, mark-free removal.
ExploreClip-Mounted Pleated Insect Screen
Passes with a clip, removed in a second. Screw-free snap-off.
ExploreThreshold Types
The height the bottom rail leaves on the floor decides passage comfort. A choice is made among three types.
| Threshold Type | Height | Use | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single-Ramped | ~20 mm | Places having a door sill or marble protrusion on the floor | Sits on the threshold, low catching risk |
| Double-Ramped | ~10 mm | Passage comfort on flat floors | The two-way slope softens the step |
| Threshold-Free | ≤7 mm | Wheelchair and heavy daily passage | No step forms. Barrier-free entry |
Frame-Depth Selection
Whether the mounting will be inside or outside is decided by the joinery's depth and the opening width.
15–18 mm Frame
Used for recess fitting on joinery having a shutter behind and narrow mounting depth. The thin profile sinks into the joinery. Almost invisible from outside.
25–26 mm Frame
The door series of surface fitting. The 26 mm channelled version locks the bottom guide and holds the mesh on the track on a windy façade.
27 mm Frame
The carrier of wide openings and double panels. On double-leaf systems the deep frame where the two panels work opposite each other falls into this series.
Flat-Pack Mounting Flow
The pleated insect screen arrives flat-packed. The set-up finishes in five steps.
- 1The profiles arrive cut to size and numbered. The frame is assembled with corner wedges.
- 2The tension cords are passed between the top and bottom rails. This is the line keeping the mesh standing without sagging.
- 3The tension adjustment is made with an Allen key. Neither hard nor loose. The mesh must gather itself when folded.
- 4The housing is screwed to the joinery or the wall. The bottom-rail level is checked.
- 5The magnetic closing point is adjusted and the panel passage is tested.
The mesh and track architecture is explained on the Pleated Insect Screen Systems page; which connection works on which opening is shown on the application areas page, and the measurement-based budget is given on the price calculator page.
Questions About Pleated Insect-Screen Mounting
On a pleated insect screen should threshold or threshold-free be chosen?
Is it fitted from inside or outside?
What happens if the tension cords loosen?
Quote by Passage Area
Once the door or window measurement and the floor state are conveyed the threshold type and the frame depth are chosen together.
