Honeycomb Blind Installation Types

Honeycomb-blind mounting uses the same five connections as the pleated blind. The difference is in the cellular fabric's weight and in how the edge leakage affects the insulation.

Three Technical Notes Specific to Cellular Fabric

Fabric-sourced factors that change the connection selection in honeycomb mounting.

Edge Leakage Decides the Insulation

The honeycomb's cell air builds a barrier between the glazing and the room. Air leaking from the blind's edge pierces this barrier. Since the glazing-bead type seats on the glazing bead it minimises the void. If blackout and insulation are wanted together it is the first connection to look at.

Double-Cell Weight

Double-cell fabric is heavier than its single-layer counterpart. On wide glazing the screwed or bracketed connection is preferred over the adhesive. The tape tests the load in the long run.

Opening Together with the Sash

The screwed, hooked and glazing-bead types mounted to the window sash work in sync with the sash. At tilt opening the blind does not get out of the way. An advantage in frequently ventilated volumes like bathrooms and kitchens.

Questions About Honeycomb-Blind Mounting

Why does the glazing-bead mounting stand out on a honeycomb blind?
The cellular fabric's heat and light performance depends on the edge void. Since the glazing-bead type seats into the bead channel almost no void remains between the glazing and the blind. The leakage drops to a minimum.
Does the adhesive type carry cellular fabric?
On standard and single-cell fabrics, yes. On double cell or widths above 150 cm the screwed or bracketed connection is safer.
Which type is used on a roof window?
On sloped roof windows the glazing-bead model seating inside the bead is the standard solution. The blind stays on its plane. It does not sag down.

The cell structure and fabric classes are examined in depth on the Honeycomb Blind Systems page; the venues the connection is applied to are gathered on the application areas page.

Describe the Façade and the Glazing

Once the façade direction, glazing size and blackout expectation are conveyed the mounting type together with the fabric class is recommended.
