Glazing-Bead (Portray) Honeycomb Blind
Glazing-bead (portray) honeycomb mounting — the cell rail recesses into the bead channel. Edge leakage ends, insulation stays continuous.
Why Is the Portray Critical on a Cellular Blind?
The honeycomb's insulation comes from the air gap in the cell. Air leaking from the rail edge leaves this effect incomplete. The portray mounting recesses the rail into the bead channel, the gap descends to the least.
For this reason a portray honeycomb makes a difference where insulation is critical: cooling glass surfaces, rooms wanting savings. The connection type completes the fabric's job.
At Which Measurements Does the Portray Channel Work?
| Measurement | Need | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Channel depth | Must meet the rail profile | At insufficient depth the rail protrudes outside, the recessed look is lost. |
| Channel width | Must meet the rail width | The rail does not enter a narrow channel. On a wide channel a gap creates leakage. |
| Channel–glass clearance | Enough gap so the fabric does not rub | At too narrow a share the cellular fabric rubs the glass, the stacking spoils. |
On Which Window Is a Portray Honeycomb Natural?
Roof windows
On Velux-type systems the portray channel already exists. The cellular blind is a natural match there.
Sash-opening windows
The rail stays on the glass plane. When the sash turns the blind turns with it, no sagging.
Rooms expecting blackout
The mounting where edge leakage is lowest. Together with blackout cell it gives the darkest result.
Places wanting a minimal look
The rail is recessed into the joinery; the blind looks like part of the window.
What Is Insulation Integrity?
The honeycomb cell sets up an air barrier between the glass and the room. The gap between rail and joinery is this barrier's side door. The portray closes this gap.
The result: less cold glass in winter, less hot surface in summer. The connection type produces not an appearance but a function difference here.
The Honeycomb Rail Seating into the Portray
On a portray unit the rail base sits into the PVC bead's channel. The rail feet are produced by the channel; the unit stands like the joinery's continuation. No screw or tape, the look is the cleanest.
On a unit turning with the sash the portray seating gives extra confidence. The rail is locked inside the channel, it does not come out by being lifted like a hook. In homes with children and school dormitories this fixedness is a preference reason.
The portray honeycomb's single constraint is the joinery type. On aluminium and timber rails there is no portray seat. On that joinery the same drill-free result is taken with hooked mounting. On PVC joinery the portray is always the first examined option.
Seating the Honeycomb Rail into the Channel
The honeycomb rail's seating into the portray channel differs from the pleated rail. The rail base is wide and is pushed to the channel line with equal pressure. A rail pushed from one end seats diagonally into the channel and the fabric slides to one side. Pushing with two hands equally makes the rail seat straight.
The in-channel gasket can affect the rail seating. On some joinery a thick gasket prevents the rail's descending into the channel. This case makes the rail sway; it is solved with a different base profile. The fit is checked with a bead photo before production.
On removal the rail is pulled equally. A rail pulled from one side jams at the channel edge. A rail pulled equally from both ends comes out straight, the bead is not damaged.
