Recess-Mounted Venetian Blind

Recess-mounted Venetian blind — the rail seats into the window recess. Depth condition, tolerance and the cleanest look.

The Rail Sinking Into the Recess

In a recess set-up the headrail sits on the window void's inner wall and the blind runs inside the recess. Seen from outside only the slats are visible; the rail stays on the same plane as the wall line.

This position is the Venetian's cleanest-looking form but its price is the recess itself. Sufficient depth must exist for the rail, the slat pack and the tilt mechanism.

Depth and Placement Conditions

Flush set-up passes four checks. If one does not fit, the plane changes.

Recess depth, tolerance and obstacle checks in a recess set-up
CheckRequiredIf It Does Not Fit
Recess depthA share swallowing rail and slat packThe rail stays out front; move to wall
Side toleranceA symmetric narrowing shareThe rail jams or slides to one side
Sash openingNo clash with the inward-opening sashThe sash touches the blind; wall is chosen
Casing protrusionA gap behind the railThe rail is brought forward; the look changes

What the Flush Position Brings

  • Lowest edge leakage

Since the blind runs inside the recess light leaks only from the tolerance share. It cannot be compared with a rail standing on the wall.

  • Free window sill

If the sill top is occupied the flush blind does not clash with it. Pots and décor stay in place.

  • Integrated look

When the rail sinks to the wall line the window looks as if it carries its own accessory.

  • Radiator freedom

A blind staying inside the recess moves away from the radiator in front of the window and does not block the heat flow.

The Recess Set-Up

The measurement is not a single value; the recess is read from three points.

  1. 1

The recess is measured at three points

Top, middle and bottom widths are read separately; the narrowest value gives the rail length.

  2. 2

    The tolerance share is deducted

The share dropped from the finished size lets the rail sit comfortably rather than scrape the recess.

  3. 3

The points are screwed to the inner wall

The connections are marked on the rail line; the recess side walls are sought to be solid.

  4. 4

The rail is locked and tested

The slats are lowered fully and closed; the clash with the sash opening is probed one last time.

A Recess Whose Depth Falls Short

If the depth can barely swallow half the rail the choice splits in two: either it is passed to wall mounting or a thinner-profiled rail series is turned to.

A half-flush look is not acceptable. A rail staying out front is both an aesthetic and a function loss; the slat pack hangs outside the recess and can clash with the sill.

Questions About Recess-Mounted Venetian Blind

How is the measurement taken in a recess?
The recess width is read from three heights and the narrowest value is taken; production drops the tolerance from this value. The depth is reported together with the rail series.
Is recess possible on an inward-opening window?
Not if the sash touches the blind. The sash movement line is checked before the rail; in a clash the wall or ceiling is chosen.
How deep must the recess be?
A share fully swallowing the rail profile and the slat pack is needed. The exact figure changes by the rail series and is given with the product.

Send the Recess Measurement

Once the depth and the three-point width are shared the recess suitability is finalised.
