FENETRE Systems — Insect Screen and Pleated Blind Systems

Balcony Zip Screen

Zip screen on a balcony: wind cutting with side-channelled fabric, sun control and an insect barrier; turns the open balcony into a usable volume.

Balcony Zip Screen Analysis

The balcony is the most common home application of the zip screen: the fabric locked inside the side channels closes the open edge — the wind is cut, the sun is filtered, insects stay outside. It turns the balcony into a usable volume without building a glass balcony; when retracted it disappears inside the cassette and the view opens.

Wind Cutting

The fabric locked into the side channel does not sway in wind; the open edge closes stably.

Sun Control

The screen fabric filters the sun; the balcony seating area stays shaded.

Insect Barrier

The closed edges cut the passage of flies and insects.

Privacy

By the fabric openness ratio the view from outside decreases; the view from inside is preserved.

The four-season edge of the balcony

The problem of an open balcony is wind and sun; the zip screen closes the edge with its side-channelled fabric — the wind is cut, the sun is filtered, pests stay outside. It gives semi-interior comfort without the cost of a glass balcony.

The fabric openness ratio determines the choice: a 5% screen preserves the view, blackout gives full privacy. The retracted cassette opens the edge completely; the balcony is used in two modes.

Mounting is done with the top case and the side channels; it is fixed to the balcony joinery or the railing line.
