The pet screen mesh is tensioned to your measurements and set into the frame — it arrives with claw resistance tested.

The weave is far thicker and more resilient than standard mesh and holds up to a cat’s weight and claws. It is produced with a fixed or hinged frame.

What makes pet screen different

Pet screen is the thickened variant of standard fibreglass mesh: the yarn diameter is increased and the weave is strengthened. It resists cat and dog claws, scratching and abrasion — it stops insects while also carrying the weight of an animal.

The extra thickness slightly reduces optical clarity compared with standard mesh, but it is far more practical than repeatedly replacing a standard mesh torn by claws. In homes with pets it becomes the default choice.

Corner and edge reinforcement is done for the pet load. The plastic reinforcements at panel corners and the mechanism fixing the mesh to the frame are strengthened against clawing; the weak point is usually the edge joint.

Use in a home with pets

A cat climbing the mesh is the core problem pet screen solves. On standard mesh a climbing cat pulls it off and escapes; pet screen carries that load and keeps its shape. For cats that spend time in front of windows it is the only safe option.

The same applies in homes with dogs — a dog waiting by the door leans its paws on the mesh. The thick weave tolerates that abrasion, and the zone at floor level takes the heaviest load.

A pet screen panel can be made for every screen type: fixed, hinged, sliding and roller systems can all be fitted with pet screen instead of standard mesh. The system does not change — only the mesh material does.

The tight weave limits airflow only slightly. Pet screen passes a little less air than standard mesh, but the difference is not felt in daily use; ventilation is preserved.

Mesh replacement and panel life

Pet screen lasts for years but is eventually replaced. The frame outlives the mesh: the worn mesh is removed from the panel and a new one is fitted under tension — no panel replacement is needed; only the mesh is consumable.

Mesh tension decides the panel’s shape. A loose mesh sags in the frame and looks wavy; a correctly tensioned mesh sits as flat as glass. At replacement the tension is set evenly and corner pulls are balanced.

Panel position affects the load on the mesh. A panel at floor level is a direct target for the animal; on high windows the load drops and standard mesh may suffice. The pet screen decision is made according to the animal’s reach.

A cleaning routine extends mesh life. Mesh that collects dust and pollen loses clarity and gains weight; wiping it with a damp cloth twice a year preserves its form and visibility.

Seasonal differences in insect load do not change the mesh choice — pet screen works in all conditions. In winter, when insect pressure is low, the panel can be removed and stored, which extends the mesh life further.

The realities of a home with pets

The mesh cost affects the total panel cost. Pet screen is more expensive than standard mesh but reduces replacement frequency, making it economical in the long run.

A dog pushing on the balcony door leans on the mesh: when it wants out it presses the mesh with its paws. Standard mesh tears under that load while pet screen carries the weight.

A cat climbing onto the window sill pushes the mesh trying to get outside. Pet screen’s strong weave resists that escape attempt and the mesh does not shift out of place.

Pet hair collects in the openings. Mesh that holds hair needs regular cleaning — vacuuming with a brush or wiping with a damp cloth preserves its form and clarity.

Production and ordering details

The animal type and panel position are stated on the order. A cat window and a dog door need different reinforcement, and this usage information goes onto the production note.

The panel type is chosen according to the existing frame — hinged, sliding or fixed panels can each be fitted with pet screen mesh. Choosing the mesh does not change the panel.

The mesh is a wear part outside the warranty scope — claw damage counts as normal abrasion. A long mesh life depends on correct use.

In production the mesh is fitted with a special tension: pet screen’s thick weave needs a different tension than standard mesh, and a loose fit leaves the mesh wavy.

Pre-purchase checklist

This mesh is a must on any opening the pet touches — on a standard-mesh panel, tearing is inevitable. The difference is made by the mesh material, not the panel type.

The existing frame decides the panel type: the same mesh is fitted to fixed, sliding or hinged frames. The product is specialised in the mesh, not in the panel.

Fall protection is not this product’s function — on balconies and high-storey windows a safety net or lock part is fitted separately.

Questions About Cat Screen

Does pet screen mesh affect visibility?
It is slightly thicker than standard mesh but does not meaningfully restrict the view — a reasonable trade for the durability gained.
Can a cat screen be used on doors too?
A hinged-frame version is made for door applications; pet screen mesh also withstands the knocks of daily passage.
