Glazing-Bead (Portray) Duette Blind

Glazing-bead (portray) duette blind installation — the double-layer rail recesses into the bead channel and blackout is preserved.

Why Does a Double Layer Want Recessed Mounting?

A duette blind works with two fabric layers and the gap between rail and joinery means a light and air escape for both layers. The portray mounting closes this gap by recessing the rail into the bead channel. Both the blackout deepens and the heat retention rises.

The double-layer rail is deeper than the pleated one. The portray channel must meet this depth. If the channel is suitable the result is a blind integrated with the window, working synchronously with the sash.

What Does the Portray Channel Ask on a Duette?

Measurement needs for the duette rail to seat into the portray channel
MeasurementIts Meaning on a DuetteResult
Channel depthThe double-layer rail is deepIf the depth falls short the rail stays outside the channel. The recessed clean look is spoilt.
Channel widthMust fit the rail widthA narrow channel does not take the rail. A wide channel creates edge leakage.
In-bead channel shareThe two layers' rubbing areaAt a narrow share the fabric rubs the glass. Valid for both layers.

Where the Portray Duette Is Strong

  • Rooms wanting full blackout

Combined with the mounting type of lowest edge leakage the blackout duette's result becomes the darkest.

  • Roof and attic windows

On Velux-like joinery the bead channel is already ready. The double-layer rail is fitted there.

  • Windows moving with the sash

The rail stays on the same plane as the glass. When the sash turns the blind does not sag or rub.

  • Heat and light control together

The double layer's insulation + the recessed rail's leakage cutting = the room's climate control strengthens.

How Is Channel Suitability Understood?

Not every joinery has a portray channel. It exists on the bead of certain series. This method is not applied on a flat bead plane. A photo of the bead's side section shows the channel's existence and measurement.

If the channel exists the measurement is taken. The depth must meet the rail profile, the width must meet the rail width. If not suitable the hooked or screwed option comes into play. An order is not placed without the portray suitability being checked.

The Duette Unit in the Portray Channel

The duette blind's portray version seats the two-way opening mechanism into the joinery channel. The top rail is pushed into the bead channel and the bottom rail works free. The two-way tension cords' arrangement stays inside the portray and the sash movement does not affect the opening.

The portray unit's turning together with the sash is an advantage in two-way use. While the window is open at tilt the blind both gives light from the top and keeps the bottom band closed. It solves the open window's privacy problem with a single move.

Being drill-free preserves the portray duette's tenant preference. The rail is removed by pulling out of the channel and the bead returns to its first state. For users having PVC joinery the screw and tape alternative is not needed.

Insulation Position on a Portray Duette

A duette seating in the portray channel sets up the double insulation layer on the plane closest to the glass. The double-layer fabric's cell gaps and the air trap in the glass-rail gap work together. Heat loss is lowest at this position.

Removal and re-fitting on a duette is for cleaning purposes. The unit is pulled out of the channel and the fabric surface is wiped. Re-seating the rail is a single move. This ease makes regular maintenance practical.

The portray duette's sound and heat performance comes from the position. The close air trap the fabric layers set up with the glass surface breaks the street noise's tone and reduces the cold radiation at the glass edge. This effect is related to the unit's position, not the rail profile.

Questions About Glazing-Bead (Portray) Duette Blind

Does a portray duette blind turn together with the sash?
It does. Since the rail sits inside the channel the blind is bound to the sash. It turns together with the sash, does not hang in the air.
Is the duette rail compatible with all bead channels?
No. The double-layer rail is deep. The channel must meet this depth. On a channel that does not fit the hooked or screwed type is looked at.
Does portray mounting really darken better?
The fabric type does not change. The distinction is in the rail's positioning. The rail recessed into the channel closes the side gaps. In a blackout combination the tightness makes a distinct difference.
