FENETRE Systems — Insect Screen and Pleated Blind Systems

Veranda Pleated Blind

Pleated blind on the veranda. Shade in the semi-open volume, wind protection and visual integrity at the interior connection. Provides evening privacy.

Veranda Analysis

The veranda is the semi-open threshold where the house meets the garden. It has a roof but its façades are open or glazed. While the pleated blind cuts the sun and the wind on the veranda’s glazed or open façades, it provides visual continuity with the interior. When the same fabric family as the house’s interior blinds is used, the inside-outside integrity remains.

Semi-Open Volume Shade

The blind cuts the sun on the veranda façades. The sitting area under the roof becomes usable all day.

Wind Protection

The blind closing on the open façades breaks the side wind. Dining and sitting comfort on the veranda extends.

Inside-Outside Continuity

When the same fabric family as the house’s interior blinds is used, the veranda looks like the interior’s continuation.

Evening Privacy

With the garden lighting the veranda’s inside becomes visible. When the blind closes, the interior is separated from outside.

The Open and Glazed Structure Distinction on the Veranda

On the veranda the space’s openness state gives the blind decision. On an open veranda a system taking direct rain and wind is needed, on a glazed veranda a system working close to interior conditions. On the open structure the pleated blind is not long-lived. The wind tires the fabric. In this condition the zip screen is the right system. The glazed veranda is the pleated blind’s strong area.

Unlike the winter garden, the glazed veranda carries a wide single-plane façade. The glass panels between columns are each equipped with a separate unit. The panel measurements are not standard; every opening is produced from its own measurement. Keeping the units at the same position preserves the façade aesthetics.

On windy days, fixing the bottom rail or leaving the fabric in the closed position is the usage rule so the unit does not shake. If the blind is left half while the veranda glass is open, the air current pushes the fabric. This detail is written on the mounting plan and explained at handover.

In families using the veranda as a sitting and dining area, the blind turns the outdoor space into interior comfort. The noon sun and the neighbour view are provided. In the evening while the interior lighting is on, privacy remains. Since every inter-column panel takes a separate unit, the unused partition can stay closed.

On the wooden veranda frame the connection hardware is taken per the material. A screw goes to the wooden case, a hook connection to the aluminium profile. If the veranda height is limited, the unit rail sits inside the case and the passage line is not lowered.

The neighbouring-parcel view is the most frequent privacy reason on the veranda. The view from the garden level to the neighbour’s garden or vice versa, the band height is taken per the sitting group’s position. The two-way opening leaves the sky and the light from the top while closing the eye level.

The veranda’s seasonal usage calendar also plans the blind. Active use between spring and autumn, closed keeping in winter. The fabric waiting in the closed position is preserved from UV and the unit’s colour life extends. The seasonal usage rule is explained at handover.

On verandas where a barbecue is used, the odour and soot load chooses the fabric decision. On units near the cooker line wipeable fabric is taken and the flue draught’s smoke is directed away from the unit. In the layout plan the barbecue point is marked on the measurement form.

The veranda’s winter closing also covers the blind. The units are left in the closed state. Snow and rain entering the frame gap do not touch the glass surface. At the spring opening a one-off fabric and rail cleaning starts the season.

At the veranda’s garden-door connection no blind is needed but on the fixed glass on the side façade the unit continues. On doorless openings the band position is set per the street view. The façade plan shows the door-glass distinction in a single drawing.

The rain and wind direction chooses on which façade of the veranda a unit is needed. The units on the dominant-wind façade are kept closed and the glass surface is protected. When the wind direction changes the position is reversed.

Application Notes

Mounting & Selection for Veranda

Connection Surface

The connection is made to the veranda column or the aluminium joinery. The structure type is checked before mounting.

Wind Condition

On fully open and wind-exposed verandas the zip screen is more suitable. On semi-closed volumes the pleated blind is enough.

Outdoor Fabric

The fabric is taken per moisture and UV exposure. Interior fabric wears early in veranda conditions.
