Attic Pleated Blind
Pleated blind in the attic. Tensioned systems on sloped and roof windows, on-joinery mounting on mansard walls. Contributes to heat insulation.
Attic Analysis
The attic window sits not on a flat wall but on the sloped roof or the mansard wall. Free fabric sags on the slope. The pleated system tensioned inside the rail works independent of the slope and stays on the joinery in every position. On the vertical window the on-joinery mounting is made without drilling the wall.
Works on the Sloped Plane
The tensioned pleated blind keeps the fabric taut inside the rail; it does not leave the window plane at slopes up to 90 degrees.
Roof-Window Fit
On roof windows embedded in the roof plane the blind lies on the glass. Light and heat are cut at the roof line.
Mansard-Wall Mounting
On sloped mansard walls a drill-free on-joinery mounting is made. The wall’s slope does not affect the blind.
Insulation Contribution
The attic is the volume with the densest heat loss. The closing blind builds an insulation buffer between the glass and the room volume.
Solving the Sloped and Vertical Windows Together in the Attic
The attic carries two types of openings. The sloped window on the roof plane and the vertical window on the gable wall. On the sloped glass a standard blind sags. The railed tensioning mechanism keeps the fabric locked along the slope, no sagging occurs even when open. On the vertical gable window a normal vertical unit is used.
The roof window is hard to reach. It may need reaching over the bed or furniture. In the hand-pushed control the operating handle reaches toward the window. If access is hard, an extension rod or motorised control steps in. The decision is provided per the usage frequency. On a glass opened a few times a day the motorised option is practical.
The attic’s thermal character affects the blind. The sloped glass takes direct sun in summer, it is the room’s hottest surface. Sunscreen or blackout fabric stops the heat entry at the glass surface. The open system at night lets the attic air.
The bed is generally placed under the slope in the attic. The sloped glass above the head drops the street light directly onto the bed at night. The blackout-fabric railed system cuts this light line. This is the only solution for the sloped glass.
The roof-window brand chooses the mounting decision. A common brand’s case measurement is standard, it has ready hardware. On custom-production joinery a universal rail mechanism is made. The brand and the slope angle are the measurement form’s mandatory field.
Dust build-up is fast in the attic. Once-a-year brush cleaning on the upward-facing rail channel is enough. The fabric is wiped with a damp cloth. No water touches the rail mechanism.
Access to the roof window at the stair head is from the stairwell. The unit position must be within hand reach. On the sloped glass at a high level a rod extension or the motorised control type is considered. The access line is marked at measurement.
In summer the attic accumulates heat. The closed unit cuts the sun load at the glass plane and balances the difference with the lower floor. In winter the same layer contributes to the roof insulation. The attic blind works all year.
The vertical and the sloped window want different mechanisms. On the vertical joinery a standard unit, on the sloped roof glass a railed system is produced in the same project. Every joinery is marked with its slope angle, the two systems are cut from the same fabric.
Application Notes
Mounting & Selection for Attic
Railed System Mandatory
In the sloped application a railed tensioned model is made. A freely sagging system does not work on a slope.
Slope and Measurement
The roof window’s brand and slope angle are sent. Compatibility is provided with the joinery manufacturer’s case measurement.
Darkness Choice
In attics used as bedrooms the blackout series prevents the early sun entering from the slope.
