Ship Pleated Blind
Pleated blind on the ship. A fixed-railed system in passenger and crew cabins, mounting suiting ship standards. Project-based production, bulk cabin standard.
Ship Analysis
In the ship cabin the blind must withstand the sea voyage’s continuous movement and fit the ship furniture standard. The railed pleated system works locked on the cabin window. It gives privacy in the passenger cabin and shade control on the bridge. In bulk cabin production the standard is made project-based.
Locked Position in Voyage
On long voyages the fabric stays fixed between the rail channels. Continuous movement does not let the blind move from its place.
Cabin Privacy
In passenger cabins privacy is built by closing the window fully. The interior view is cut during port docking.
Bridge and Work Area
In navigation and work zones the blind cuts screen glare. Light management is provided in critical tasks.
Bulk Cabin Standard
In the same cabin type all units come out at equal size and look. The standard remains in a ship refit or new-build project.
Blind Planning by Cabin Type on the Ship
The ship blind project starts with the cabin-type list. The crew cabin, the passenger cabin, the saloon and the above-deck area carry separate needs. Each type’s window form, moisture load and usage density differs. Instead of a single-type unit, a cabin-based assignment table builds the production file.
Salt and moisture resistance is more critical than on a boat. Long voyages and constantly humid air want marine-class coating and stainless connection on every metal surface. In the fabric the moisture series and a mildew-resistant weave are taken. The cabin’s limited ventilation makes the fabric’s breathing important.
In a refit project the existing rail is checked. A sound rail stays, only the fabric and the control are renewed. In a new build the unit list is produced from the joinery plan and mounted at the shipyard. Working on land shortens the duration and lowers the error margin.
In the crew cabin the shift order doubles the blind’s importance. Personnel sleeping by day want full darkness, at shared-usage hours semi-transparent privacy is needed. The day-night model carries two jobs in a single unit. The blackout series is the crew cabin’s standard.
On the above-deck saloon and the bridge glass there is a view responsibility. On the glass in front of the bridge the blind can produce reflection during night voyage. The rule on this glass is keeping the unit open. On the saloon and the cabin glass full closure cuts the interior light leaking onto the water at night.
In a ship project the unit count reaches tens of cabins. A numbered list by cabin type, deck and partition runs in a single document. The repeating cabin measurement returns to serial production. The specially formed porthole is cut one by one.
The maintenance plan runs with the ship’s port calendar. Fabric change and rail maintenance are made on the dock day. No intervention is needed during the voyage. Spare fabric is kept in the ship’s storage. On a long trip a damaged unit is repaired in place.
On a classed ship the mounting wants an inspection certificate. The material’s fire class and the mounting method are approved per the ship’s class. The unit’s technical file joins the project package for the inspection.
In the passenger ship’s cabin corridor there is also partition glass. On the stair-hall and saloon connection glass the unit gives privacy. This unit is produced with a series different from the cabin’s but to the same marine standard.
The cargo ship’s and the passenger ship’s needs separate. On the cargo ship the crew cabin and the bridge are enough. On the passenger ship the cabin, the restaurant, the saloon and the corridor partition are produced with a separate list.
Application Notes
Mounting & Selection for Ship
Project-Based Production
A production list is built per the cabin types. A bulk order is made in a new-build or refit project.
Marine Hardware
In the salty-air and continuous-vibration condition the rail and the fabric are taken from the marine-suitable series.
Ship Standard
The ship furniture’s connection and material standard is verified before the application. The fire and safety condition is checked.

The Cabin List Is Taken
Once the cabin types and counts are given, a unit table is built for the refit or the new build.
